Jemilatu Mashood has an excellent career track record spanning almost ten 910) years, specializing in community mobilisation and engagement especially in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector. Cumulatively, she has actively interfaced over 200 communities on several projects especially in the WASH sector supporting communities develop functional structures to manage their water facilities. In related efforts, she worked with communities on the link between water, hygiene education and basic sanitation promotion as a member of local NGOs, Mining Foundation, and consulting groups.
As the Project Coordinator with Kinkaway Foundation – a local NGO working in poor mining communities her core responsibilities included leading the Organisation’s ‘corporate social responsibility’ especially facilitating the extension of services such as health, education and water to affected communities. She also led efforts at building relations with Government Agencies and Development Partners as well as mobilizing resources from organizations for the foundation’s activities. As part of this role; she is engaged in gender issues, rights of women and children and empowerment of different segments of the community.
She is currently the Field Coordinator for the Dutch funded SMARTer WASH project being implemented in six regions. Under this project, she has been able to successfully mobilise over 250 communities (Bosomtwi district-Ashanti Region; Greater Accra with focus on ShaiOsudoku, Ga South and Ga West Municipalities, Sunyani West District and finally, Western region). She was the lead trainer on the use of SMS for reporting functionality of water and basic sanitation facilities at the communities. Over the period, she developed excellent working relations with a number of district assemblies and trained some District Assembly staff on SMS monitoring of Water and Sanitation Facilities for purposes of sustainability. She has also networked with key government functionaries at the national level that are critical to the success of development interventions.
Jemilatu has therefore developed experience in effective implementation and coordination of projects. Similarly, over the period she had a lot of exposure to practical monitoring tools, data collection and analysis, as well as networking with civil society groups at national and local levels.
